Newmarket’s longstanding winter season parking restrictions are in effect from November 1, 2025 until April 15, 2026 to keep roads safe, easy to navigate and allow for snow removal through the winter months. During this time, vehicles cannot be parked on the street overnight (between 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.). Residents may park in select municipal parking lots overnight by getting a free digital permit from the Town’s Off-Street Parking Program. Residents are reminded that other year-round parking regulations continue to apply.
Every winter, Newmarket bans overnight street parking. Last year’s record amount of snow (approximately 161.5 cm) and increasingly unpredictable weather highlighted the importance of this initiative to keep streets clear of parked cars, improve overall visibility, support overnight snow removal and ensure emergency vehicles can respond quickly when needed. As in previous years, parking rules will be enforced even if it is not snowing, with a $100 fine for violations.
All residents are eligible to apply for and obtain a free temporary offsite parking permit through the Town’s online parking portal at parking.newmarket.ca by providing their vehicle information. With the permit, drivers can park in designated spaces at select Town facilities overnight from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day. Vehicles must be moved by 7 a.m. to open the space for daytime use and allow for snow clearing.
Residents will be permitted to park in designated spots in one of six parking lots. Click on the maps for more information on where to park within each lot.
All permits will be issued electronically and without the need to print or place a hard copy of the permit within vehicles. Once registered, residents will receive important details about the rules and regulations for parking within Town-owned lots. There are designated spaces within each lot with signs marking the spaces.
Residents should consider this option when they have overnight guests, are hosting parties and need a safe space for guests to leave their vehicle overnight or to leave a vehicle downtown after a special dinner on Main Street.
While overnight street parking has long been prohibited during winter months, the Town introduced the Off-Street Parking Program in 2020 to provide residents with more flexibility and safe alternatives.
