Newmarket has developed a comprehensive roadmap for the future growth of the community. We welcome businesses that share our values of well-planned, sustainable development.
Planning for the future
Newmarket is designated by the Province of Ontario as an Urban Growth Centre. Our
Official Plan and a
Secondary Plan will act as the blueprint for growth over the next 30 years. By concentrating growth and intensification in designated corridors and urban centres, it will protect existing neighbourhoods and the integrity of the Town's fabric. Pockets of urban amenities will be interwoven among existing green spaces to meet the Town's growth target of 100,000 residents by 2025.
VivaNext Rapid transit system
Currently under construction, with the first phase to be completed in December 2015, the
vivaNext rapid transit system will completely transform public transit in Newmarket. This revolutionary transit system will provide residents and businesses with a safe, convenient alternative to driving, while Davis Drive and Yonge Street will evolve into Newmarket's most prominent commercial areas. Pedestrian-friendly boulevards, combined with green open spaces, trendy restaurants, cafes and cutting-edge businesses will redefine and make these corridors the most desirable locations in the community to work, dine, live, shop and play.
