  • Heat warning issued for Newmarket on Saturday, August 9. Stay cool at a Town facility

    A heat warning has been issued by Environment Canada for York Region starting Saturday, August 9. Residents and members of the public looking to escape the warm temperatures this season can visit one of Newmarket's facilities and amenities below during regular hours of operation.

    Those looking to cool down can also visit a Newmarket spray pad or one of Newmarket's Swimming Pools during the public swim times. Please note that regular swim fees apply for all pools listed.

    Mercedes-Benz Newmarket Water Feature at Newmarket's Riverwalk Commons (200 Doug Duncan Drive) 

     

    Please note that the water feature will close early on days where events will take place at Riverwalk Commons in the summer. Every Thursday from July 3 to August 21, the water feature will be closed all day for the Newmarket Music Series presented by TD Bank Group through the TD Ready Commitment.

    The Town reminds residents that the best defence against heat-related illness is prevention. Take precautions when going outdoors, limit heat exposure if possible and stay hydrated.  

    Anyone at risk of or experiencing homelessness in York Region who is seeking emergency shelter and supports should call the Emergency Housing Central Intake Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-877-464-9675 ext. 76140. 

    Residents can also visit york.ca/ExtremeHeat for safety tips during hot weather and york.ca/EmergencyHousing for information on temporary housing and wraparound supports.
