Due to the significant impacts of this past winter season, the Town's local road network has experienced an increase in pothole activity. Freeze-thaw cycles and prolonged periods of harsh weather have accelerated pavement deterioration across multiple areas.
In response, the Town has implemented an enhanced pothole maintenance strategy to address current conditions efficiently and proactively. This season, there will be two pothole units that will be deployed, instead of one unit. Doing so will allow crews to expand coverage and improve response times throughout the community.
Over the next several months, staff will be focusing heavily on cold patch operations. This approach enables immediate, temporary repairs under current weather conditions while helping to stabilize the roadway surface.
Residents are encouraged to assist by reporting potholes as they are identified so staff can prioritize and address the location as maintenance activities ramp up across the road network. If you spot a pothole on a local Newmarket road please email the Town of Newmarket at [email protected] or call 905-895-5193. Potholes on regional roads such as Mulock Drive, Bayview Avenue, Leslie Street, Davis Drive and Bathurst Street can be reported to York Region.
We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as we work diligently to restore and maintain safe driving conditions throughout the Town.
